How it works

What it is doing

It replaces three things at once — the armband, the waist belt and the hand you were using to hold your phone — and it makes you visible while doing it.

Reflective Running Vest — Men & Women — It carries
Job one

It carries

Phone and bottle in front, keys and cards zipped behind.

Two front pockets put the heaviest things you carry at chest height, close to your centre of mass and in your line of sight. A zipped rear pocket takes the things you cannot afford to shake out on a descent.

Standard and large-format phonesSoft flasks and running bottlesKeys, cards and gelsA packable windproof shell
4.2 ozempty — most of what you feel is the contents, not the vest
Reflective Running Vest — Men & Women — It stays completely still
Job two

It stays completely still

A four-point strap system that holds the load against your ribs.

Chest and lower straps on both sides set the fit at two heights independently. That is what pulls the weight against the ribcage instead of letting it swing from the shoulders — the difference between a vest that rides and one that chafes. Reflective shoulder strips sit at the height headlights sweep, so you are visible while it does it.

4-point fitchest and lower straps — set them and nothing bounces

Mesh side panels vent where your torso actually sheds heat, so it works over a t-shirt in July and a winter shell in January.

What it does

Everything this does, in plain English

It replaces the armband, the waist belt and the hand you were using to hold your phone — and it makes you visible while doing it.

01

Carries your phone where you can reach it

A front chest pocket keeps the phone in sight and reachable at pace without breaking stride.

What you getNo armband cutting off circulation, and no hand permanently occupied.

02

Carries water without your hands

The opposite front pocket takes a soft flask or a standard running bottle.

What you getHydration on runs where carrying a bottle by hand wrecks your arm swing.

03

Locks away what you cannot lose

A zipped rear pocket for keys, cards, gels and a packable shell.

What you getNothing works its way out on a descent, and nothing presses against your ribs.

04

Makes you visible to drivers

Retroreflective strips positioned at shoulder height, where headlights return the most light.

What you getYou get seen earlier on pre-dawn, dusk and after-work runs on unlit roads.

05

Stays completely still

Chest and lower straps on both sides set the fit at two heights independently.

What you getLoad sits against the ribcage instead of swinging from the shoulders — no bounce, no chafe.

06

Disappears while you wear it

4.2 ounces with open mesh where your torso sheds the most heat.

What you getAfter the first mile you stop noticing it, which is the only real test of a running vest.

Without it

  • A phone in one hand for the whole run
  • A waist belt riding up over your hips
  • Keys jangling loose in a pocket
  • Dark clothing on an unlit road at 6am
  • A backpack bouncing between your shoulder blades

With it

  • Phone in a chest pocket, both hands free
  • A four-point fit that holds against the ribs
  • Keys and cards zipped away behind you
  • Reflective strips at headlight height
  • 4.2 oz you forget after the first mile

Inside it

Why it works the way it does

A running vest is a load-carrying system, and the physics are simple: weight that sits close to your centre of mass moves with you, weight that hangs away from it swings.

  1. 01

    Four adjustment points, not two

A chest strap and a lower strap on each side let you set the vest's circumference independently at two heights. That is what pulls the load against the ribcage instead of letting it hang from the shoulders — the difference between a vest that rides and one that swings.

  2. 02

Front pockets keep mass low and forward

The heaviest things you carry — a phone and a bottle — sit at chest height on the front, close to your centre of mass and in your field of view. Load carried high on the back is what causes lateral sway on every stride.

  3. 03

Mesh side panels vent where heat builds

Your torso sheds most of its heat from the sides and back. Solid fabric there traps it; open mesh lets convection do its job, which is why a vest with mesh panels feels cooler than a bare shirt plus a waist belt.

  4. 04

Reflective strips sit at headlight height

Retroreflective material returns light toward its source, so it only works when a driver's headlights reach it at the right angle. Shoulder-height strips catch that sweep; a reflective logo on your chest largely does not.

  5. 05

A rear zip for the things you cannot lose

Keys and cards go behind you, zipped, where they cannot be shaken out on a descent and cannot press against your ribs.

Reflective Running Vest — Men & Women — in use

The single biggest determinant of comfort is not the vest — it is whether you spent ninety seconds setting the straps. The fit guide below is the part worth reading.

Instructions

How to use it

Step by step, from unboxing to the first week of ownership.

  1. 01

Put it on over your outer layer

Always outermost. Reflective material buried under a jacket does nothing, and a vest worn under a shell cannot be adjusted once you warm up.

  2. 02

    Set the lower strap first

Snug across the lower ribs — firm enough to hold, loose enough to breathe deeply without restriction. This strap carries the load; the chest strap only stops sway.

  3. 03

    Then set the chest strap

Higher up, tightened until the front panels sit flat against you. You should be able to slide a flat hand between the strap and your chest.

  4. 04

Load heavy items low and centred

Phone in one front pocket, bottle in the other, balanced left and right. Keys, cards and gels go in the rear zip pocket where they cannot migrate.

  5. 05

    Do the shake test

Jump on the spot ten times, or run in place. You should hear and feel nothing move. If you do, tighten the lower strap first, then the chest strap.

  6. 06

    Re-check after the first mile

Layers settle and fabric relaxes as you warm up. A ten-second adjustment at the first junction prevents the chafing that shows up at mile five.

  7. 07

Rinse and hang after wet or salty runs

Hand wash, hang to dry. Never a tumble dryer — heat destroys the structure of the mesh panels.

Use cases

Where it earns its place

Road running

Phone, keys and a bottle carried hands-free, with visibility for traffic.

Early-morning and night runs

The reflective strips are the reason to own it if you run before sunrise or after work.

Trail running

Rear zip pocket keeps essentials secure on technical descents where a waist belt shifts.

Hiking and fastpacking

Same load-out works at walking pace, with mesh panels that matter more under a warm layer.

Dog walking

Hands free for the lead, phone and poop bags carried, visible on unlit lanes.

Commuting on foot or by bike

Wearable over work clothes, with visibility for the parts of the route without streetlights.

Race day

Carry your own gels and phone without a waist belt riding up over a race number.

Gym and outdoor training

Somewhere to put a phone and keys during circuits, sled work or hill repeats.

Care

Looking after it

Five minutes of maintenance is the difference between a season and years.

Rinse after salty or wet runs

Salt crystallises in webbing and mesh and becomes abrasive against skin. A cold rinse after a hot run adds years to the fabric.

Hand wash only

Cool water, mild detergent, gentle agitation. A washing machine's spin cycle distorts the mesh panels and can foul the buckles.

Hang to dry, never tumble

Heat is what destroys the structure of technical mesh and weakens webbing stitching. Hang it indoors or in shade.

Keep reflective strips clean

Retroreflective material works by returning light. A film of dried sweat and road grime measurably reduces that. Wipe them with a damp cloth.

Check the buckles and stitching monthly

Especially where the straps anchor to the panels. That is where load concentrates and where wear shows first.

Troubleshooting

It bounces when I run
The lower strap is too loose. Tighten that first, across the ribs, then the chest strap. The load should sit against your body rather than hang from your shoulders.
It chafes at the neck or underarm
Usually too loose rather than too tight — a vest that moves rubs. Tighten it, and wear it over a sleeved layer on long runs.
My phone works its way out of the front pocket
Seat it fully and, on technical descents, move it to the rear zip pocket. Front pockets are for fast access, not for bouncing over rocks.
The straps loosen during a run
Feed the excess webbing back through the buckle so it cannot slip, and re-check the fit after the first mile, once layers have settled.
It is too hot in summer
Wear it over a thin technical shirt rather than a cotton one, and make sure the mesh side panels are not covered by an outer layer.
The reflective strips look dull
Grime on retroreflective material reduces its return. Wipe with a damp cloth; it recovers.

Honest fit

Is it right for you?

We would rather you bought the correct thing than this thing.

Buy it if

  • You run before dawn, at dusk or after dark on roads with traffic
  • You want to carry a phone, a bottle and keys without holding anything
  • You find waist belts ride up or bounce
  • You run, hike or walk for up to a couple of hours at a time
  • You want one carrier that works over a t-shirt or a winter shell

Look elsewhere if

  • You need a 1–2L hydration bladder — this is not a reservoir vest
  • You are running ultra distances that need 10L+ of capacity
  • You need dedicated trekking-pole attachments
  • You want a machine-washable garment
  • You need a fitted, gender-specific race vest

Questions

Frequently asked

How should a running vest fit?
Snug at both straps with no movement when you jump on the spot. Set the lower strap first, across the ribs, firm enough to hold but not to restrict breathing; then the chest strap higher up until the panels sit flat. You should be able to slide a flat hand under each strap.
Does it bounce when running?
Not when the straps are set. Bouncing almost always means the lower strap is loose and the load is hanging from the shoulders instead of sitting against the ribcage. Tighten the lower strap first.
Does it fit both men and women?
Yes — it is a unisex cut with four-point adjustment, so it accommodates a range of torso shapes and layers rather than two fixed gendered fits.
Will my phone fit in the front pocket?
Standard large-format phones fit. Larger cases and Pro Max-size handsets seat deeper but still fit. For technical descents, the rear zip pocket is the more secure option.
Is a water bottle included?
No. The front pocket is sized for a soft flask of 250–500ml or a standard running bottle, sold separately.
Can I use a hydration bladder with it?
No — this is a carry vest rather than a reservoir system. That is a deliberate choice: for runs up to a couple of hours, bottles are lighter, cooler and much easier to keep clean.
Can I wear it over a jacket?
Yes, and you should. Reflective strips only work as the outermost layer, and the straps have enough adjustment for a winter shell.
How visible is it at night?
The shoulder strips are positioned at the height headlights sweep, which is where retroreflective material returns the most light to a driver. Treat it as a supplement to a head torch or light on unlit roads, not a replacement.
How much does it weigh?
About 4.2 ounces, or 0.12 kg — most of what you feel on a run is the contents rather than the vest.
Can I put it in the washing machine?
No — hand wash in cool water with mild detergent and hang to dry. A spin cycle distorts the mesh panels and a tumble dryer destroys them.
What goes in the rear pocket?
Keys, cards, gels and a packable shell — anything you need secured rather than accessible. It zips, so nothing shakes out.
Is it suitable for hiking as well as running?
Yes. The same load-out works at walking pace, and the mesh panels matter more under a warm layer, not less.
